Name Report on the National Assembly elections
Description

The report is based on the result of COMFREL monitoring and assessment on 2008 National Elections in 15 provinces and municipalities throughout Cambodia. 10,000 long- and short-term election observers and 1,319 vote tabulation/quick count staff/volunteers were trained and deployed during the pre- and post-national election. While the decrease in the number of violence cases, a better access to media and a better understanding of voter rights and responsibilities by Cambodian citizens were underlined as a relative improvement during the elections, many concerns remained: active participation of the civil servants, forces personnel and other state authorities in support of the election campaigns for the Cambodian People's Party (CPP); the use of state resources in favor of the ruling party; and a serious under-representation of women in the new National Assembly.
