Vietnam's National Climate Change Strategy

Executive. National Climate Change Strategy and Decision No. 2139 / QD-TTg on Approving the National Climate Change Strategy. The Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam adopted the National Climate Change Strategy in December 2011. The document states that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will "assume the role of permanent officer of the National Committee for Climate Change (NCCC), in coordination with other sectors and localities to implement the strategy ... ".

One of the guiding principles of the document is that "adapting to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions must be done in parallel to respond effectively to climate change, prioritizing in the early stages. The specific objective of "reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a mandatory indicator of socio-economic development". During the implementation process, this strategy also states that "after 2025, Vietnam must focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to protect the Earth's climate system."

The goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions is 1% per year without international support and 2% per year with international support. Energy consumption (per unit of GDP) is reduced by 1.5-2% per year. 5% of energy renewable by 2020 and 11% by 2050.
