Income risk perception and management by rural rarm households, Taking part in sugarcane contract farming in Lao PDR

Khamsong Village, Xaibury District, Savannakhet Provi nce, Lao PDR is located on high ground. The main income source for the majority of the villagers was rice. However, The average rice yield was 2-3 ton per hectare, compared to other areas (3.5-4 ton/ha). The yield was quite low for the area. However, each household had a number of rice fields providing sufficient rice forhousehold use with some surplus for sale.
