Development of an integrated GIS-based land use and transport model for studying land-use relocation in Hanoi, Vietnam

An article exploring solutions to traffic congestion in Hanoi, Vietnam. The research was carried out to evaluate the contribution of some ‘major’ land-uses in these areas to traffic congestion on certain corridors and to test how relocation may relieve traffic congestion. To do this, researchers conducted a large work-based travel survey in several locations from which they derived travel characteristics and patterns. They entered these travel patterns into the GIS model, and simulated a relocation. Eight scenarios were derived and route choice algorithms used to derive how land-use and transport can best be combined in Hanoi to relieve traffic congestion. Authors conclude that the selected land-uses contribute considerably to traffic congestion.
